Lake Shaftsbury

We haven't really done too much since getting to Vermont. This is partly due to sheer exhaustion after driving across the country, partly to a sort of fug as we unpack our stuff and get used to a new place and partly to not really knowing what to do. So today we decided to get out of the house for a bit and go somewhere that isn't bloody Walmart: Lake Shaftsbury.

Lake Shaftsbury is a state park just five miles up the road from us. We took Cadbury and Erebus to give them a walk as so far they've just been running around the backyard, which to be fair is 10 acres. As I don't have rear seat covers in my Subaru yet we put a cheap sheet down in the hopes it would keep Erebus' muddy paws off them, and we were wrong.

The lake is surrounded by a nature trail, so we set off to walk around it. I'm used to walking the dogs on flat Californian concrete, which in no way trains you for walking on things like uneven paths and slight slopes. If anything, the walk made me realise how out of shape I am compared to the days when I was dieting and going to the gym three times a week.

This is called "trying to get your dogs to sit on the bridge for a nice photo," also known as "a complete waste of bloody time".

Getting out of the house and getting some exercise and fresh air was just what we needed. Lake Shaftsbury is absolutely beautiful and we're going back once the leaves begin to change.

Of course the day couldn't go perfectly, oh no; we ended up back at bloody Walmart for some more stuff we forgot the first four times we went.
